The dog-person dating guide

What “Must Love Dogs” Really Means

Liking a photograph of a puppy is easy. Sharing life with a dog involves time, money, space, mess, compromise and remarkable affection.

Move past the slogan

Ask whether dogs are allowed on furniture, how holidays work, what happens during long workdays and how much exercise the household expects.

Talk about responsibility

Who walks in rain? Who pays an emergency veterinary bill? What happens when the dog is old, incontinent or unable to travel?

Include boundaries

Loving dogs does not require identical habits. Two people can negotiate bedrooms, feeding, training and personal space when both remain respectful.

Look for genuine understanding

The strongest signal is not enthusiasm alone. It is curiosity about the individual dog and willingness to live responsibly alongside them.

Bailey’s Tip: Good dog-aware dating protects the dignity and comfort of the person, the dog and everybody else sharing the space.
